I belong to several band mailing lists. One recent email read, " . . . ownership at the Oasis has changed again. They didn't bother to tell us. We called to confirm that everything was a go, but found out they are doing Mexican music on Friday and Saturday nights. And charging to get in. Well last time I check we don't do any Mexican songs. So I guess that won't work. If you had plans on coming maybe you can take in a good movie . . . "
In case anyone still wonders, the voicemail Ana left with Oasis on June 13th remains unreturned.
Some bands report that Oasis is again under new ownership and that all bookings are cancelled. I also heard that it is temporarily closed.
To get clarification, Ana phoned Oasis at its new number on Friday evening. No one responded, so she left voice mail. As of this morning, her call has not been returned.
Browsing through MiamiBandStuff, I noticed that Ego's band website at http://www.egomaniacs.us is not working. A little Google research found a new site at http://www.egobandmiami.com. Much improved. A surprise was the "Posters" section... you have to see these posters!
The website for Rumors Bistro and Bar at http://www.rumorscutlerbay.com wasn't working either, but this time I had less Google luck. For now, I'll leave it alone... I know of at least one venue site that, after several dead months, magically returned.
After 25 years, Big Hoolie's is no more. Monday, May 19th was the last night for Hooligan's Pub & Oyster Bar (9555 South Dixie Highway in Pinecrest). Owned by former candidate for Miami-Dade mayor Jay Love, Hooligan's Pub had live music every Friday and had started blues jams on Thursdays. This venue will be missed. I just checked -- its website is still up at http://www.hooliganspub.com.
On Friday, May 23rd, we went to JohnMartin's to shoot the band "Rock N Roll Circus," but as the stage lights were broken (confirmed by the band, soundman and our waitress), the stage was too dark for pictures. Still, we did enjoy the music and dinner. We'll simply reschedule.
