Ten Foot Alice: 2008-03-08 at Rumors Bistro and Bar
The newly formed Ten Foot Alice has a distinctive sound that stands above the ordinary. Also notable is their "own portable 16 foot by 16 foot weather proof stage" (great idea!) that you can see at their website. Above, from left to right, we have David Schilling (guitar, bass and harmonica), Lauren Sylvester (lead vocals, guitar, flute and percussion), Tony Leavitt (vocals, drums and percussion) and Jimmy Kirk (vocals, guitar, bass and harmonica) at Rumors Bistro. Ten Foot Alice's website is at http://www.tenfootalice.com.
A fine lead singer, Lauren Sylvester also adds tonal color with flute, guitar and percussion. She is key to Ten Foot Alice's uncommon style.
Jimmy Kirk is not only a fine vocalist but is also accomplished on guitar, bass and harmonica and is good with the audience. He and Lauren were focal points.
David Schilling was a guitarist and the bandleader of Shallow End. He now continues as a guitarist and -- I strongly suspect -- Ten Foot Alice's bandleader. What's new is that he now also plays bass. I really, really like him on bass.
Drummer Tony Leavitt's smooth, flowing style is a valued asset that brings everything together.
As the music business can be particularly rough on brand new bands, let's wish Ten Foot Alice the best.
