IKO-IKO: 2009-05-08 at BB's Sports Bar & Grill
Fabled IKO-IKO rocked BB's Sports Bar with blues, rock and Americana—“Urban Swampadelic.” Ana gushed, “ . . . jazzy, bluesy feel that makes you want to close your eyes and take in this soulful music while your head and body just wanna sway . . . can totally rock out and go from swing to just plain boogying . . . ” Among IKO-IKO's accomplishments are performances in the films “Cape Fear” and “Contact" as well as in the original production of Jimmy Buffett's “Don't Stop the Carnival.” See IKO-IKO's website at http://www.iko-iko.com, MySpace site at http://www.myspace.com/grahamwooddroutsikoiko and Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/pages/Iko-Iko/10176267564 for schedules, photos, music and more. Above, we have John Wenzel on lead guitar and background vocals, Daniel East on drums, percussion and background vocals, Mitch Mestel on bass guitar and background vocals, Graham Wood Drout on guitar and lead vocals, and Ron Taylor on keyboards.
Front man / lead singer / guitarist / founding member Graham Wood Drout is a top performer and very gifted songwriter. Hear Graham's originals at IKO-IKO's MySpace site.
John “Good Rockin' Johnny” Wenzel on blistering lead guitar and background vocals. I remember him from when IKO-IKO was the house band at Tobacco Road. Ana remarked, “ . . . guitar takes the stage and walks away, taking you with him . . . ”
The magical keyboard wizard Ron Taylor. Ana explains, “ . . . really knows how to pet those keys and they reward him
with great sound . . . ” Incidentally, he is also great with ProTools.
Presenting bass master Mitch Mestel on bass guitar and background vocals. I enjoyed his in-the-pocket, musical and precise bass lines. See Mitch's MySpace page at http://www.myspace.com/surfinbass.
Daniel East on drums, percussion and background vocals. Ana observed, “ . . . has swing and impeccable timing . . . ” If being an awesome drummer isn't enough, check his website at http://danieleast.net.
IKO-IKO. Ana closes with, “ . . . great vocals and amazing instrumentals . . . if you've heard them before, hear them again as
they are as good or better and if you haven't, then get out there and sway to
a legend . . . ”
